Rehearsal Video - Right After the Shoot

What have we done/organised a rehearsal?

Our group was not able to all be there for the rehearsal but Hannah and I like to think we kept it together. We luckily got a hold of our two first choices after our lunch and booked the studio for 30 minutes. This rehearsal was mostly to see what Joe and Hannah our possible first choices looked like together and how the dancing sequence would look.

What have your organised/substituted for your rehearsals?

Hannah (from group) created a short dance sequence for the rehearsal just to practice what movements we wanted and to see if it looked at all awkward, our actors or the movement. This could show us if our choices had what it took, and what we could improve in the routine.
We also made sure that we would have a chair for the actor to sit on. I also tried to get my hands on a bed, but I couldn't in the end.

What has the process shown you need to develop, and how are you going to do this?

We realised that we need to make the dance a lot longer obviously and a lot slower. The slow is very slow and peaceful, and will be a lot sexier if it is a slower dance routine. There was success with both our two first choices. The both looked great on camera and acted well. At times it looked possibly awkward, but only because we were just testing out new things on them both.

Polydor Records Talks

MY NOTES

Video Commissioner,

Between the artist and production company,
They will be given a single, and a deadline, an ultimate delievery date, when the artist is videod.

At that point they then talk to the artist to see if they have pecific ideas for the video/track, do they want to be in the video, if it is narrative based, whether its studio or location. Sometimes a artist will know exactly what they want, and then they will bring a director to mind. We come up with brief, or they will.
They show some of the Directors briefs, the more specific the brief, with they budget (depending on record sales + tours) they get the idea's in with all the directors, and then make sure the chosen one, everyone is on the same page. They will sort out everything backstage any drama,

they will ask for story boards and everything. Any issues should be resolved before the shoot day comes, its important that they see it,

Decisions like the director of photography who is going to edit it?

First cut delivered - they discuss any changes, then if like it, they will tick off the edit.

It is a week after delivering it,

vevo they help us, shoot a lot of advertisement. Other artists will use taste maker sites, more quirky and cool platform. Vevo is more commercial platform but hold most views etc.

Directors are signed to a production company.

They are video department - but there is a digital that works on the putting up and uploading

There is a label, that see all over it, AR sign the artists, they deliver the actual music
promotions are tv and radio
digital

Lana Del Rey Born to Die
Thin line when they know when to stick to a deadline and then not rushing art.

It's good to take risks,

5000 is lowest budget
Product Placement
Censorship, for TV there is a lot, online there is a a limit to how much nudity you can show and drug taking.

Depends on the market and target audience if they should make to versions. Most of their artists biggest platform is online.

Audition: Girls Dancing

Hannah choreographed a short piece for the girl to dance to.

Hannah Nanton doing the dance:

Watching this audition video of Hannah doing the short routine shows me that Hannah has the capability to be sexy and appealing. She is a great dancer when it comes to this style.

Audition Boys

JONTY WALKING

JOE WALKING

We did these short little videos to see it all together, him walking and the music with it to see who fitted the look better. Joe looked a lot more relaxed while doing the walking, like more chilled out, which is something we want. We will continue to keep Joe as our 1st choice.

Actor Choices for Artist 2

Choice Number 2

Jonty Harrison

Jonty is also a student at our school. He is very blonde with bright blue eyes, meaning, he matches our description perfectly. He also does not look too young which is very important, we do not want an actor that looks like a little boy because it could ruin the ideas behind our video and making it look professional. So he cuts for looks wise. I just do not know what his performance skills are like, which is why we are going to do some audition footage with the two chosen guys to see what they look like on camera and if they can act un awkward on set.

Actress Choice For Girl 1

Choice Number 1

Hannah Nanton

Hannah also perfectly fits the description of what we want our actress to be like. She is attractive, mix raced and a very distinct face. The great thing also about having Hannah would be that she is one of the best dancers at our school so she would be effortless when it came to the dance scene. It is very important that we pick a dancer considering it is quite a large part of our video. Hannah is also very confident and with reassurance from her and with my own knowledge I believe she could really pull off the performance element to our video, containing a lot of confidence.

Some Pictures I Took of Hannah

Actress Costume

This as an outfit choice does look very risky and difficult to dance in, but when it is perfectly adjusted it will work very well. We just need to order it into our artists size and then we can try it on her. It is sexy, but not extremely typical for someone to wear like it is not crazy stereotypical.  Possibly over it we want to
have a satan black dressing gown to match it, so she can take it off during it.

Organising Our Audition Process

We wanted to create a real audition process so we decided to hold actual auditions for the role of the artist. We had already spoken too these three boys about possibly getting the role. This means we are going to hold an audition today, just to see what they are like in front of a camera.

Here is what the audition will be like:

1. He sings a verse from the song :

See my face when I slide through
Every place I will find you
Every time we fell apart
Girl I see it in the scars

2.  Just Filming him, to see how he reacts when being filmed.

3. Filming him walking.

Rehearsal Video

Lucky enough, we were able to create a rehearsal video (to explain our idea visually, practicing our idea's practically) with our two first choices for our Artist and Dancing Actress. We cut our final products into three sections on how she performed to the actor. Either performing to the camera, to the actor, and then a more tactile version of the dance. I find in my opinion, with no influence from my group, I think when she dances to the camera it is most alluring. So to me she should dance for the camera, not looking at him until the end of the instrumental, and then it can become more tactile. But if we were to have her dancing on him constantly, it could become very un tasteful and cheap looking. I do not want her to come off as a prostitute or stripper. She is the girl that go away in my eyes, whom is very alluring and our artist is in love with her. It is a little more sentimental that just plain old the over sexualisation of women.

Actress Choice For Girl 2

Choice Number 2

Anjuli Vadera

Anjuli is a A1 student in our school whom is also a dancer. She is a very beautiful girl with the perfect complexion that we want for our girl. Her dance skills are very impressive so she could be perfect as a second choice as a our girl. My main concern is that she is a new student meaning that she might not be very comfortable with doing our video considering it has quite a sexual nature, and she may be too young. Because she does not know us on a personal level she may have a problem with wearing the costume and the contents of the video. We will hold an audition for both our two choices and also some other dancer that are options to see whom ultimately can pull off that look. She will be much easier to get a hold of than Hannah considerings he is in the year bellow and does not have has much work as an A2 student, meaning we will have no problems when pulling her out of class for possibly the video or any sort of work to the website or digi-pack. All these factors make her quite a strong competitor for the role.

Location Idea 1 Style

Idea One

For the design of the Hotel room, as one of our options we were thinking of the typical aged motel room from America. What attracts us to it is because it will be an aged looking room it could be quite trendy considering a lot of things that were cool back in the 70's or 80's are considered very quirky. It could give us this edge to our video, a cool artsy aged looking hotel room. This would be a fun to create as a set. Here are some examples (including the top picture) of what we imagine:

ARM CHAIR STYLE

These pictures are very styli zed sets with our red light idea as well. They are the perfect visual way to describe what we want to do. By using this kind of style of room we will create the kind of hollywood theme to the location, although our video will be very stylised and not very hollywood, it will look dynamic to have a set like this. It is still a question if we should build a set like this in the studio and make sure all the lighting is right. This means we can film from all different angles. It would be much better in a way to film in an actual hotel room, so we have looked at possible locations. There is a few problems with the thought of using an actual hotel room.

Problem 1 : Guests. Guests are going to be there which is obviously inevitable. During the shoot we will have to play the song very loud over and over again, which could annoy people next door to the room.

Problem 2 : It will have to be a good size of room considering we have to fit all in there, with all the equipment and space for the actress to dance.

HMMMMMM DECISIONS DECISIONS...

Option : Location Idea 2

RESEARCHING THE SITE?

I generally love the look of this hotel, its a premier inn so all the rooms will be similar, so it will not take long if we scout the location to get an idea of what it can give us. The rooms look like they have a lot of space to move around, and I have also stayed in this hotel, and it was quite spacious. Only thought if we can actually fit all our crew in there and have the actress dance around. For putting up the gels and etc I hope would not be hard. But the bed is pretty perfect to what we imagined. Once it is flood in red light, it could almost be perfect. The still problems apply, even more to somewhere like this because they will have more guests.

Maybe not just Guilford, Cobham?

Actor Choices for Artist 1

Choice Number 1

Joe Hellman

Joe is a student in our school whom also happens to be a model, I got these pictures from his modelling portfolio. He fits perfectly to our description to a handsome male with blonde hair and blue eyes. He is a lot more masculine looking than our first choice. Also it will be good to have someone that is used to being in front of the camera, considering our video is quite racy, we do not need anyone that is camera shy. When speaking to Joe I think that it is a big possibility that he will be available to do our shoot, and he thinks it will be a good project to be a part of.
